BYD is ready to shake up the sedan segment with the new SEAL 5 DM-i model. The SEAL 5 DM-i combines an efficient, sophisticated design with a spacious interior and the latest Super DM plug-in hybrid powertrain technology, redefining customer expectations. It offers comfort, a rich standard equipment package, long range (both in all-electric mode and overall), and low total cost of ownership (TCO).
Exterior
Ocean-inspired design
The bodywork of the BYD SEAL 5 DM-i was created under the leadership of BYD's Global Design Director, Wolfgang Egger. His team drew inspiration from natural shapes and the lines of the ocean, while also incorporating the brand's characteristic design elements. The result is an aerodynamically optimized form that maximizes the efficiency and range of the Super DM plug-in hybrid powertrain.
The car's front grille is easily recognizable thanks to the signature "Ocean X" design, which combines elegant, flowing curves with sharp lower "fins" that lend the car a sporty and dynamic character. A dominant feature of the front end is the sophisticated headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights, which are standard equipment across the entire model range. The contours of the lower bumper visually widen the car, giving it a lower and sleeker appearance.
Interior
Where style meets comfort
The reference to nature continues in the interior of the SEAL 5 DM-i, which combines smooth, calming lines with premium craftsmanship, refined elegance, and generous space.
Every SEAL 5 DM-i comes standard with vegan leather seats. As is typical for BYD, the interior is filled with thoughtful technologies for everyday comfort – including a PM2.5 filtration system that protects occupants from harmful microparticles. The comfortable cabin environment is made even more airy and fresh thanks to the standard power sunroof, which also features a sunshade for better interior temperature regulation during warmer days.
Thanks to its 2,718 mm wheelbase, the SEAL 5 DM-i offers comfortable travel for five adults. The 508-litre trunk is one of the largest in its class, easily accommodating several suitcases or a week's worth of groceries for the whole family.
The SEAL 5 DM-i's dashboard features a 12.8-inch high-resolution touchscreen with BYD's rotatable function, allowing for easy switching between landscape and portrait modes.
BYD Super DM Technology
State-of-the-art plug-in hybrid
European customers have already discovered the benefits of the Super DM plug-in hybrid technology, developed in-house by BYD. It combines BYD's own Blade Battery with a purpose-built, highly efficient gasoline engine, ensuring strong performance and a long range under real-world conditions. Now, this revolutionary system, proven in the SEAL U DM-i SUV, is also featured in the SEAL 5 DM-i, bringing the same technological advancements in sedan form.
The Super DM technology consists of three main components developed in-house by BYD. The Electric Hybrid System (EHS) is a highly integrated powertrain system that combines high-speed dual motors, dual control units, and advanced oil-cooling technology, increasing the motor's power and efficiency.
The EHS utilizes high-speed dual motors with two separate functions: generating power and driving the wheels. The purpose-built Xiaoyun gasoline engine under the hood of the SEAL 5 DM-i uses the Atkinson cycle for higher efficiency and has a high compression ratio of 15.5:1.
